Education

Every child, no matter their ZIP code, should have access to a quality public K-12 education, and post-secondary education should be affordable for every American. Our children’s lives are the fate of our economy. We know that as the global marketplace grows more competitive, we need to expand opportunities for quality education and useful job skills. With the Democrats, I am dedicated to ensuring the next generation has access to the tools to ensure that they become our country’s strongest workers and professionals at the highest levels. It is education that is the most pressing economic issue in America’s future, and we cannot allow our country to fall behind in a global economy. We must prepare the next generation for the opportunity to reach that horizon and to fulfill the American Dream.

A landmark piece of legislation, the G.I. Bill, was passed in 1944 by Democratic President Franklin Roosevelt that provided opportunities for higher education for World War II veterans. It was this G.I. Bill that defined the modern American middle class. The objective of supplying a quality education to every child, a Democratic Congress under Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965 legislated the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

Recent Democratic accomplishments have further increased access to higher education, restructured and dramatically expanded college financial aid and in the same light have simplified federal programs, increased reliability, and boost efficiency for students. Addressing the problem with big banks role in student loans in 2010, President Obama signed into law student loan reform that removed their participation. To make it easier for students to pay back student loans, the Obama administration also doubled our investment with a Pell Grants reform. As Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos attempt to walk us back from this amazing leap forward that we’ve made on education by stripping protections for students and student loan borrowers, we’ll keep fighting to elect Democrats who will advocate for education.

The key to Georgia’s economic growth is closely linked to the success of our children and economic mobility of our children. This success should not be dependent on family wealth or residential locality. As your district 3 congressman, I am committed to investing in addressing the needs of the lifetime of a student from the earliest education to chosen profession starting with high-quality, affordable childcare and pre-kindergarten programs, continuing through fully-funded public schools, and on to post-secondary opportunities that will lead to a lifetime of success.

As your 3rd District Representative, Dr. Val Almonord will fight to:

  • Prioritize safe schools and help provide a weapons free learning environment for children
  • Endorse child mental-health services
  • Support the expansion of programs that provide tuition-free technical college, need-based financial aid for a path for debt-free graduation
  • Protect Georgia’s public schools from privatization, by supporting full and dedicated funding

It is a privilege to serve in elected office, and I will serve with the highest ethical standards. Together, we can make a better Georgia.

Vote for me! I will fight for you.
